Sprive for a Cause

Andy Ho, co-founder and CEO of Sprive, started his fitness equipment company in November and wanted to find ways to impact the community. With a personal connection to Special Olympics already established, he reached out to Special Olympics Southern California to see if there was a way to help raise awareness.

The partnership started by assisting in practices during the spring season, and now the company is gearing up to host Sprive for a Cause – a SoulCycle fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Southern California. The goal of the event, which takes place July 22 at SoulCycle Culver City, is to raise $10,000 to provide athletes with uniforms and sports equipment. Participants will go through a 45-minute bike ride.

\"Sprive\"Andy’s sister, Tracy, a Special Olympics athlete in Texas, will be in attendance and among the supporters.

“She’s been really, really happy and looking forward to it,” Andy said. “She’s slowly counting down her calendar.”

The family grew up in Houston, where the resources were limited, Andy recalled. More than 20 years ago, when his sister was in her early elementary school years, the family found Special Olympics. Andy remembers how the basketball games “kept [Tracy] involved” and created friendships with peers like herself.

“More importantly, it was a community of parents supporting one another,” he said.

Andy noticed his sister’s competitive spirit and social skills develop through Special Olympics.

“She loves being in a team sport,” he added. “Her social acumen has really helped her take the rein and be more confident.”
