Steven Espinoza, a five-time gold medalist at this year’s Summer Games, seems to be unstoppable in the pool. With a bright smile on his face and gold medal around his neck earlier this year after winning the 50-meter backstroke, which happens to be his favorite event, it is clear Steven is in his element.

With all that gold, it is no surprise Steven will be headed to Seattle to compete in the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. He will compete in the 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 freestyle, and the 4×100 freestyle relay.

Since joining Special Olympics Southern California in 2009, Steven\’s love for swimming has grown alongside his confidence and commitment to always do his best. He not only loves to compete, but loves being part of a team where he can be encouraged and encourage others.

“It makes me feel proud and happy,” Steven said about his opportunity to be swimming in the USA Games. “I am so excited to see Seattle.”
