Together Again: Let’s Play!

Dust off those bowling balls. Lace up your bowling shoes. The Bowling Season returns on
Monday, July 11!

The season will run through August 21 and feature a new league play format. We will division teams based on skill and track scores and standings throughout the six weeks of the season. Keep an eye out for more information as we begin to form leagues in late June! Participation may be limited in some areas due to a lack of bowling alleys and we will do everything we can to accommodate those who would like to participate in the season.

\”We are excited to host another Bowling Season for the first time since the pandemic started and to provide an opportunity for athletes and coaches to get back to the comradery and competitions they love,\” stated Calvin Lyons, SOSC’s President and CEO. \”We developed a brand new, league play format that will celebrate the transformative power of Special Olympics while keeping everyone\’s health and safety as our highest priority.\”

Because of the higher risk of a severe COVID case for people with intellectual disabilities and bowling being an indoor sport, we will not host any local, county or chapter competitions. The league play format will allow us to limit indoor gatherings while still creating a competitive experience.

The health and safety of athletes, volunteers, and employees continues to be our number one priority. Please note that plans could change as we continually monitor COVID-19 health data. We will monitor information from trusted health authorities and will adjust our plans as merited by that information. If new information emerges that would cause us to adjust the plan for the Bowling Season, we will do so and notify you immediately. We will continue to offer Team Wellness and the virtual Healthy Athletes 2.0 with Coach Max as alternatives. If you are interested in participating in the Bowling Season with the new league play format this summer, please contact your bowling coach or local SOSC office.

Become a Coach

Over the last month, we have seen an influx of athletes interested in getting back on the playing fields. This is great! But, to ensure they get back to training, we need more coaches.

Volunteers are our lifeblood, and we would not exist without their expertise, time, and enthusiasm. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a coach, you can learn more at www.sosc.org/volunteer.

No prior experience needed!
