2019 World Games: March 19 Preview

Our Special Olympics Southern California athletes have brought some new medals with them into this second week of the 2019 Special Olympics World Games. Two gold medals in the pool from Jonathan Pierce, as well as a bronze from Mark Hanson and Krystal Johnson on the tennis court, to be specific. Read more about it in our weekend recap.

While the athletes are enjoying this once in a lifetime opportunity to attend the Games, there are a few seasoned veterans at these events each year. In fact, this is Bill Fields 13th trip to watch Special Olympics athletes compete. Learn more about Fields\’ experiences at the World Games.

March 19 schedule

With two more days of competition, there’s still plenty of time for the rest of the athletes to add to the U.S. team\’s overall medal count.

Pierce (swimming), Hanson (tennis), Faith Demos (golf) and Tyrone Garrett (track and field) will be competing today. Keep an eye out for these competitions throughout the day.

Schedule and times are subject to change. All days and times listed below are local Abu Dhabi time, which is 11 hours ahead of Pacific Daylight Time:

  • 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.: TENNIS – Mark Hanson vs. TBD (Level 3, Singles)
  • 1:10 p.m.: GOLF – Faith Demos (USA), Se Jin Bae (Korea) tee off (Level 4, Division 12)
  • 5:08 p.m.: SWIMMING – Jonathan Pierce (100-meter freestyle, Division M17)
  • 5:40 p.m.: TRACK – Tyrone Garrett (100-meter run, Division M32)
